Freshman is student athlete of the month

Freshman Lauryn Cartee is named the January 2021 Student Athlete of the Month. Cartee’s intensity that on the basketball court can also be compared to the dedication she brings to the classroom.

Cartee has one of the highest GPAs on the team along with ISCC All-Conference honors accolades. Her success on the court was carried over from her time at Grayslake Central High School where she helped lead her team to a sectional championship along with a dominant record of 30-4.

Outside of getting solid grades in the classroom and giving it all on the basketball court and in the weight room, Cartee has a part time job off campus, so she has learned to manage and organize her time very properly.

Head coach and athletic director Karen Wiley speaks very highly of Cartee and is proud of her progress and the way Lauryn has helped move the team in a winning direction.

“Although we have not been able to compete this season, Lauryn has maintained a high degree of focus and determination in the classroom and on the court,” Wiley said. “Her maturity and desire to improve in so many areas are refreshing and puts wind under all of our sails when times are difficult.”
