The MCC scholarship deadline is approaching quickly.
With a wide variety of academic and merit-based scholarships, there are many opportunities to help offset your college-related costs.
If you are not currently enrolled in MCC, you should apply before completing a scholarship application. Scholarship applications can be filled out through the MCC scholarship application website, https://www.mchenry.edu/scholarships/index.html
The Follett Educational Foundation announced they will offer ten annual full-tuition scholarships. This scholarship opportunity is available to all students graduating from a McHenry County high school with a minimum 2.5 GPA. This scholarship application is for students planning a full-time student enrollment in an MCC associates or technical program. Applications for all Fall 2025 scholarships will be accepted until April 1, 2025.

Speech team earns top honors
MCC’s Speech and Debate team achieved success at the Litrenta Triangle Tournament, which was hosted by Harper College, February 14-15.
Taking the top two spots for Debate and Debate Speaker Sweepstakes were first-place Mark Luchsinger (McHenry) and second-place Caden Kotecki (Harvard). Placing second for Dramatic Interpretation was Sabrina Nardi (McHenry). Also competing were Elsbeth Haylock (Hebron) and Clara Solak (Crystal Lake).
“I’m so impressed with this team and how they are excelling by placing highly after advancing to finals,” said Bonnie Gabel, Speech and Debate program director.
The Speech and Debate team competes in a variety of oral interpretation and public speaking events throughout the year. The group focuses on the performance of literature, platform speaking, and debate to enhance the development of communication skills.
The team also had a superb performance at the Frank-ly Speaking Tournament hosted by the College of DuPage on January 18. Gabel expressed excitement for their prospects at the national competition in Norfolk, VA this April.
The community is invited to attend MCC’s Spring Showcase on April 3 at 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. in Room A211 at MCC.
Get free help with taxes
MCC offers free tax assistance through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Clinic, available January 18 to April 12. The clinic is located in Room A102 at MCC, and operates walk-in hours from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays and 3:30-8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. Note that the clinic will be closed on March 26 and 29.
Participants should use the South Entrance, park in Lower Level Parking Lot B, and enter through door A6, located nearest to Route 14. The VITA Clinic provides free tax preparation for individuals or households with incomes under $64,000. All necessary tax forms will be provided, but attendees must bring required documents.
For those who prefer to prepare their tax returns, free self-preparation stations are available in Co/Lab B (B166) and Co/Lab E (E108) for taxpayers with an income under $79,000. These stations are accessible anytime the college is open.

Student run restaurant returns
Looking for somewhere different to eat? The Tartan Bistro at MCC is open once again for reservations on Wednesday and Thursday evenings through May 7 in the Scot Room, B178.
The Bistro offers a variety of different foods from Mahi-Mahi to mango creme brulee. Also, if you’re thirsty and of age, there is a selection of both local craft brews and wines The bistro will not be open from March 19th to April 9th.
