You can experience the marvels of outer space in a series of shows coming to the MCC planetarium.
On March 8, 9, and April 5, MCC’s planetarium will be running several shows in anticipation of the April 8th solar eclipse. Titled “Eclipses of the Sun,” the show will explain the science of an eclipse with all attendees receiving NASA-approved eclipse glasses.
Other shows coming up this semester at the planetarium include: “Tales of a Time Traveler” on March 8, “Perfect Little Planet” on March 9, “Earth, Moon, and Sun” on April 13, and “Dinosaurs of Antarctica,” also on April 13.
Shows are open to the public for $15 per person ($10 for MCC students). Planetarium space is limited to 45 people per show. All shows are family-friendly. Reservations are required for attendance.

Free tax preparation clinic
From now until April 17th, MCC offers free tax preparations for both federal and state. Walk-in hours are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays and 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays in room A102. On March 27 and 30 the clinic will be closed.
Additionally, free tax return self-preparation stations can be found in Co/Lab E (E108) and the Library (A212). Taxpayers who make less than $79,000 per year can file for free at these stations.
Be sure to bring a valid photo ID as well as your Social Security card or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). You will also need a copy of the previous year’s tax return, if available; all 2023 earnings statements (W2) and other income/expense records, and the bank account details for direct deposits.

Gardenfest registration now open
Registration is open for the annual Gardenfest at MCC. The event is sponsored by MCC and University of Illinois Extension McHenry County Master Gardeners and will be held on April 13 from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at MCC.
The event is open to both new and experienced gardeners and will have more than 20 different breakout sessions. These sessions, hosted by experts, will allow gardeners to explore areas of interest. The event will begin with a keynote titled “Gardening for Nature” by Daniel Gerdes, which will cover a variety of topics.
Registration for the event is $49 for the public and $29 for MCC horticulture students, which includes lunch. Registration closes on March 29, after that date registration is only accepted on the day of the conference for an additional $5 fee (space limited).
