Star Wars fans have been receiving many different series from Disney including “The Mandalorian,” “The Book of Boba Fett,” “The Bad Batch, Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi,” “Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Visions.”
The Clone Wars’ Ahsoka Tano character was first teased in “The Mandalorian.” Ahsoka is known as Anakin Skywalker’s Padawan in “The Clone Wars: The Star Wars animated series.” She wields two lightsabers with the Kyber crystal color white in the live action Ahsoka series.
The series consists of eight episodes. The first episode was released August 22 with the finale released October 3.
The series takes place after the Star Wars Rebels animated series. If you have not seen the Rebels series, I recommend you binge that before you dive into Ahsoka. You will understand the characters Sabine Wren and Hera Syndulla much better. Before you continue reading, I will warn you there will be spoilers.
The first episode starts off with Baylan Skoll an ex-Jedi with his padawan Shin Hati wiping everyone out on a ship in search of a prisoner, Morgan Elsbeth. Shin Hati’s red lightsaber is reflecting lasers and cutting through every soldier standing in her way. Baylan wears a hood over his head creating an evil and mysterious presence as he makes his way to the jail cell. Once he frees Lady Morgan, Morgan speaks of Ahsoka Tano who is seeking a map that is said to lead to the one and only exiled Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Out of all of the Disney Star Wars series, this is one of the best ones in terms of lightsaber battles. If you are looking for another good lightsaber battle series, you could also watch the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Baylan and Shin really create great lightsaber duels which makes the story line interesting and exciting.
Ahsoka finds herself looking for help to stop Lady Morgan and her two Sith sidekicks so that she can stop them from finding and possibly releasing Grand Admiral Thrawn back into their galaxy. She turns to her apprentice Sabine Wren who was a former Mandalorian and holds Jedi abilities. The relationship between Ahsoka and Sabine is not perfect, but by the end of the first season, they grow closer.
Throughout the series, Baylan and Shin track Ahsoka and Sabine when they have the map in their possession. Sabine duels Shin, but Shin wins the first duel. She drives her lightsaber in Sabine’s side leaving her crippled and bed ridden. This is where more of the great lightsaber fighting takes place. It feels like the original Star Wars. I think many Star Wars fans would agree.
During Ahsoka’s struggle to stop Lady Morgan and the Sith, she meets her master’s force ghost Anakin Skywalker after her failed duel with Baylan. This episode truly brought me goosebumps. The scenes with Ahsoka and Anakin go all the way back to the Clone Wars. You will get a chance to see Anakin in his general armor. Ahsoka is haunted by Anakin’s darkness and makes that clear to him. He teaches her a lesson by changing to Darth Vader back to Knight Fall Anakin.
Knight Fall Anakin is known to be the side of Anakin when Order 66 took off in the prequals. He had not yet been cut down by his master Obi-Wan Kenobi. This is best described when he destroyed the younglings.
In this scene Anakin’s eyes are yellow, and his lightsaber is red. He uses the force to push Ahsoka out of the Clone Wars’ vision. His image and voice seem to almost glitch as he walks toward Ahsoka in anger. He swings his saber with such power and force, yet Ahsoka manages to disarm Anakin. There is a moment where she holds the lightsaber to his throat. He waits to see what she will do. “I choose to live,” she says as she throws his lightsaber off the platform.
Anakin is seen changing back to his normal self. His eyes change back to their normal color. He smiles at Ahsoka saying: “There’s hope for you yet.”
I think that this scene means a lot to Clone Wars’ fans. It gives us a chance to see live action Clone Wars and creates a sense of completeness. Anakin has completed Ahsoka’s training,
Once Ahsoka is returned to the real world, she almost seems reborn. She is lighter and almost happier. She has a change of clothes which symbolizes the change she has gone through. She wears all white which creates a sense of renewal.
Unfortunately, during this time Sabine has joined the enemy in the hope she will find her lost friend Ezra while the enemy is in search of Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Ahsoka learns that the flying whales on the planet can take them to the enemy’s location and possibly to Thrawn. General Zendula must go against the orders of the council to keep them from getting in the way of their mission.
Meanwhile, Lady Morgan has found the witches and has now met Thrawn. Thrawn begins the process to return home which will cause another war if he is able to do so. He is made aware that Ahsoka is on the way to stop him.
Thrawn’s character is just as he was in the Rebels series. His skin blue and his tone of voice is soft and almost calming. I think Star Wars Rebels fans will truly love his reappearance in this series. I believe they do him great justice.
Thrawn allows Sabine to search for Ezra. He knows Ahsoka will go in search of her and will let Baylan and Shin follow her.
Sabine ends up finding Ezra among a civilization of little creatures. Star Wars never disappoints when it comes to cute creatures and new characters. By the end of the series, Ahsoka, Sabine, and Ezra do not stop the enemy. Sabine makes sure Ezra gets home by secretly hitching a ride on Thrawn’s Star Cruise ship. He makes it to general Syndulla while Ahsoka and Sabine are refugees in the civilization Ezra leaves behind.
The series ends with Anakin’s force ghost watching over Ahsoka and Sabine. It creates a sense of accomplishment for him. It almost feels as if this is the last time that we will see him.
To all Star Wars fans: I hope you get a chance to watch this amazing series. It truly feels like the original Star Wars. I think Disney finally got the right idea this time. I hope Disney is able to do it again for any future series.
