MCC’s student government is fully embracing the spirit of the season, as they host a week full of Halloween festivities. Halloween Week will run from Monday, October 23 to Friday October 27, with all sorts of different opportunities for students to get in touch with their spooky side.
From Monday to Friday, there will be a pumpkin carving competition. Students may either buy their own pumpkin, or pick one up from the cafeteria, while supplies last. The pumpkins can be carved or decorated; whichever way students would prefer. Students are welcome to work in teams to create their designs, however only one entry per person is allowed. After the pumpkins are submitted, voting will take place on Thursday and Friday, with prizes being awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places.
A costume contest is being held all week. Students can stop by A247 to take a picture in front of a fall background. If you stop by, be sure to post your picture on Instagram and tag @mccstulife. Students are also welcome to stop by the Scots Bakery on Wednesday or Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., to purchase delicious treats!
Another event that spans across a majority of the week is the Craft Market, which will be held in the cafeteria from Tuesday to Thursday. This is a wonderful opportunity for art students to be supported, as their work will be on display and for sale. If interested in becoming a vendor in this market, use the following link to sign up: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdzzju1YuSJAarf_RBo4fXBzzsgFlt-3OZPax41p3eaqXl3Rw/viewform?usp=pp_url
All sorts of handmade crafts are welcome, including, but not limited to, art, crocheted or knitted pieces, jewelry, and candles.
On Tuesday, there are a variety of different events that students can join. At 3:30 pm, Celestial Origins will be held in the Planetarium. Pick up a ticket for this in A247, as space is limited. Additionally, there will be a writing competition held in CO/LAB B from 4-6 p.m. Students are welcome to stop by at any time to write and submit at this event. Prizes and winners of this event will be announced on November 1. Donuts will be available for students to munch on, as well. Lastly, students are welcome to view the film “The Village” at 5 p.m. in A240.
Also a presentation on Spirit Identities will be held in A247 at 7 p.m. Friday by the Society for Anomalous Studies. For more information on this group, visit https://www.sasghostresearch.com.
There are so many ways for students to be involved on campus this week, no matter what their interests are. Students, please stop by one of these events that Student Government worked to coordinate and show some support your peers.
