By Kelsi Morefield, Staff Writer

Talented writer, passionate musician, and loving son, brother, and friend, Max Liptrot, passed away in December 2012 unexpectedly of heart complications. A journalism student at McHenry County College, he not only was a writer and editor for the Tartan, but also wrote music lyrics and poetry outside of class.

In honor of Max, the Max M. Liptrot Memorial Scholarship was created, and is awarded each semester to a student of journalism at MCC.

To fund this scholarship, as well as to remember and celebrate the life and legacy of Max Liptrot, the 6th annual Max M. Liptrot Scholarship Fundraiser and Birthday Bash will take place on Saturday, April 28th starting at 7:00 p.m. at Offsides Sports Bar & Grill, located at 680 S Eastwood Drive (Route 47) in Woodstock.

There will be a cash bar, a raffle, and Max memorial items such as bracelets, t-shirts, and a book of Max’s writings available for purchase at the fundraiser. All proceeds and donations from the fundraiser and birthday bash will go to fund the Max M. Liptrot Memorial Scholarship to support a journalism student at MCC.

In honor of Max, it’s encouraged to wear either your Max shirts, or to wear some orange, to show your support for him and his legacy. All are welcome and encouraged to attend the event.
